Quick summary of ReBEQI
ReBEQI is short for ‘Research-based Education and Quality Improvement’. It is a three year project funded by the European Commission’s Quality of Life and Management Living Resources 5th Framework Program. The project has seven partners in six European countries (France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK).

Quality improvement (QI) measures aim to improve health services. However, commonly used strategies for QI do not change professional practice or improve patient care. The objective of ReBEQI is to narrow the gap between research and practice by developing a research-based approach to QI itself.

To do this we will establish a framework for the selection, implementation and evaluation of QI interventions that address identified barriers to change and that can be tailored to local circumstances. Methods to identify the causes of sub-optimal care will be developed and interventions will be designed to address identified problems. Internet-based tools will be developed to help clinicians, policy-makers and others to transfer research findings into clinical practice.

Expected results include a suite of tools for identifying barriers to change and a framework for selecting appropriate interventions.
