Trudy van der Weijden

Dr. Trudy van der Weijden received her medical degree in 1989. She is registered as Scientific researcher in Epidemiology (2000). From 1998 she is working as a senior researcher at the department of General Practice / Centre for Quality of Care Research at Maastricht University. She is principal investigator of 6 implementation projects in Maastricht, and participating in several other (inter)national projects. Her expertise is on systematic reviewing medical evidence, translating evidence into guideline recommendations, implementation research of diagnostic and preventive guidelines in general practice, and research on effective risk communication in cardiovascular risk management. These studies revolve around the conflict between rationalizing work (the application of guidelines) and patient-centred work (the practice of the consultation). She received the CaRe Award 1997 for her thesis on implementation of cholesterol guidelines. She is a member of the editorial board of Medical Decision Making, and of the steering group of EuroAction (European study on the prevention of cardiovascular disease coordinated by the European Society of Cardiology).
